How we work

We foster a collaborative approach nurtured by motivation and commitment:

Coming for therapy is something one does not enter in lightly. We expect clients to be in a place where they feel motivated and ready to want to engage in the process, with a view of building the life skills and awareness that will enable them to overcome the difficulties that bring them to therapy. The process can only work, when we work in partnership, which calls for commitment. After an initial pre-assessment session we therefore require our clients to follow through with their therapy programmes, which are designed to contain a minimum of 8 sessions each.

An action plan geared at progress:

Based on Action Based Brief Therapy (ABBT) the work plans we develop around the specific needs and goals of each client are highly strategic and incorporate practical tools and tasks that are relevant to the particular disconnection experienced and efficient in achieving progress in a brief and determined time frame.

While the work plans we elaborate are unique according to the distinct objectives of each client the therapy programs offered follow a structural guideline structure that is tangible and represent an important reference as you proceed and progress towards success:

I. INITIAL ASSESSMENT - UNDERSTANDING THE SITUATION AND DESIRED GOALS (upto 1.5 hours)
II. CONSOLIDATION OF GOALS & ACTION PLAN
III. FOLLOW ON SESSIONS - COLLABORATIVE WORKING TOWARDS YOUR ACTION PLAN (II + III = 8 sessions)

I. INITIAL ASSESSMENT - UNDERSTANDING THE SITUATION AND DESIRED GOALS

All our services require an Initial Assessment (IA). An IA assesses your situation from a therapeutic point of view, and ensures that you are in the ‘right’ place, depending on your concerns. It also explains the way in which we work together and your commitment to the process. We also set your days for on going therapy in the IA.

Length of Sessions: Up to one and a half (1.5) hours

Days/Times: Mondays

  • Mornings: * 8:30-10:00; *10:30-12:00;
  • Afternoons: *12:30-2:00; *2:30-4:00

II. CONSOLIDATION OF GOALS & ACTION PLAN

In your very first of eight sessions, after the IA, you and your therapist, will identify the main issues that you would like to resolve. Out of this, you will create an action plan with feasible goals. Within this session you will also be required to sign a contract agreement that holds you accountable to Relate, for the work plan you and the therapist have developed.

Length of Sessions: Up to one (1) hour.

Days/Times: Tuesdays and Wednesdays

  • Mornings: * 9:00-10:00; *10:20-11:20; *11:35-12:35.
  • Afternoons: *1:15-2:15; *2:30-3:30; *3:45- 4:45

III. FOLLOW ON SESSIONS - COLLABORATIVE WORKING TOWARDS YOUR ACTION PLAN

After your consolidation session follow on sessions will always be working towards the action plan developed. Please note that there will be ‘homework’ assignments for you to work on at home.

Length of Sessions: Up to one (1) hour.

Days/Times: Tuesdays and Wednesdays

  • Mornings: * 9:00-10:00; *10:20-11:20; *11:35-12:35.
