At RELATE KENYA we build on goal focused solutions. Our working model follows the principles of Action Based Brief Therapy (ABBT) - a Solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) approach with a strong emphasis on action based work plans.
What is different about ABBT?
ABBT differs from other schools of 'talk therapy' in that it is goal focused, implies the establishment of a concrete collaborative work plan and is time-limited to increase efficiency.
ABBT is therefore highly strategic, exploratory, and solution-based rather than problem-oriented. It is less concerned with how a problem arose than with the current factors sustaining it and preventing change.
We discovered that even the most chronic problems have periods or times when the difficulties do not occur or are less intense. By studying these times when problems are less severe or even absent, we discovered that people do many positive things that they are not fully aware of.
By bringing these small successes into their awareness and repeating the successful things they do when the problem is less severe, people improve their lives and become more confident about themselves.
